Stump grinding is one of those things most homeowners don’t think about or know is a possibility until they have a stump that’s taking away from the stateliness of their yard and need to get rid of it. The old-fashioned way to remove a stump is to either manually dig it out over the course of several hours/days or tie some sort of rope or chain around it and yank it from the earth with help of a powerful truck. While both these tactics work, they are also a massive hassle. Tree stump grinding is an efficient and cost-effective way to remove unsightly stumps without having to put a ton of time and effort into the job. In fact, we like to joke that it takes our crew at Clean Edge Tree Service & Removal in Lewisville, TX, more time to take our SC70 Vermeer stump grinder off the trailer and get it set up in the proper position than it does to actually grind the stump into smithereens.

Rather than dig the stump out of the ground the old-fashioned way, a stump grinding machine uses a vertical blade that passes back and forth over the top surface of the stump. As the blade spins, it chips away at each layer of the stump until nothing is left — all within seconds. Even the toughest and hardest to access tree stumps are no match for our stump grinder. Our stump grinder can fit inside a 36-inch gate and grinds even the most stubborn and hard-to-access stumps 24 inches into the ground. By grinding the stump below grade, you instantly reclaim your yard.

No need to remove it yourself manually. Why put in that much work when you can choose professional stump grinding? We know that you will also be impressed with the clean up job. When we’re done, your property will have the cleanest edge in the neighborhood.  This is our guarantee to you!

WHEN DO YOU NEED STUMP REMOVAL?

Insect Invasion

Stumps left in your yard can be a breeding ground for insects like wood roaches, bees, termites, and carpenter ants. A rotting stump near your house can bring uninvited critters into your home or surrounding healthy trees.

Regain Space

Most people don’t realize how much space they’re saving in their yard until they finally get rid of that old tree stump. Many times, they can plant something new in the same spot the stump used to be located in or reuse that space for something else.

In The Way

Not only are tree stumps unsightly, but a tree stump sticking out of your lawn could also be bothersome and a nuisance when mowing your grass or if children are playing in the yard.

They Can
Grow Back

Mother Nature is unpredictable, and many trees have been known to grow back after removal when the stump is left untouched. If the tree needs to be removed for safety concerns, a homeowner should not have to deal with it twice.

Improved
Property Values

Even the smallest upgrades or yard maintenance can do wonders when it comes to improving your home’s curb appeal and improving its property values if you eventually decide to sell.

Frequently
Asked
Questions

What is stump grinding and is it necessary?

Stump grinding is the last step in complete tree removal. It is not required, however it is most convenient to have done while removing the tree. If the stump is not removed, it could attract unwanted insects and take away from the aesthetics of your yard.

Is the debris from stump cutting messy?

Stump grinding leaves sawdust, wood chips and other smaller wood particles on your property which can take time to clean up. You can ask for the area to be cleared out as much as possible or you could leave it and the area will settle over time. It usually takes about 3 months for this material to decompose.

Can I plant a tree in the same spot?

It is possible, however, you will need the right professional with the best stump cutter to ensure that new growth will thrive in that area. Our high grade equipment can reach down far enough to remove the entire stump and roots. After that, it is best to wait about one year for the area to settle. Then, remove all the debris, add some topsoil and fertilizer and you are good to go!

How long should I wait to plant something new?

Ideally, you should wait about a year before you decide to plant seeds or something new where a stump was removed. Make sure to clear the area of any wood chips and debris. Add new top soil, some fertilizer and you are good to go.
