Thankfully, no one was hurt when this massive Red Oak tree fell on November 10th! I will emphasize again how import it is to have your trees inspected! Just because the tree looks stable and has green leaves does not mean it's thriving and safe. Here is another example of what can happen to a tree if the underlying problem goes undetected. This Red Oak was completely rotted on the inside and infested with wood roaches. There were signs that should have been a red flag:
The tree canopy had leafless and dead branches
The bark was shedding in different spots - this is called sloughing bark and is a sign of decay
The wood roaches could be seen coming and going from the inside of the tree
